Hockey Whoopass Jamboree

Ladies and Gentlemen, the Jamboree is on!

By mob majority rule, we're going to use AHL teams for the season, at least until the NHL gets it's act together. Sorry for the late notice, because the season starts Wednesday, the 13th of October. So declare your teams*, and let's get ready for some Whoopass!

Personally, Rocket Jones is backing the Cleveland Barons, farm club of my beloved San Jose Sharks. Y'all can choose your teams by location or affiliation, we're not real big on rules around here. In fact, there's only two:

1. Declare your team, and place their logo somewhere on your front page. It's ok if more than one person wants the same team.

2. When your team plays someone else's in the Jamboree, then the loser must display the logo of the winner on their page for 24 hours.

So get back to me folks, and we'll get some ice action going on!

The original crew (and original teams):

VegasBaby - Calgary Flames
Derek - Colorado Avalanche Hershey Bears
Catt - Pittsburg Penguins Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins
Jenn - Colorado Avalanche Utah Grizzlies
Heather - St Louis Blues Worcester IceCats
Dr Funk - Ottawa Senators Binghamton Senators
GEBIV - Buffalo Sabres Rochester Americans
Victor - Washington Capitals Albany River Rats
Helen - Dallas Stars
Daniel - Atlanta Thrashers
Gir - Calgary Flames Manitoba Moose
Pogo - Calgary Flames
Cindy - Montreal Canadiens Hamilton Bulldogs
Frinklin - Vancouver Canucks Milwaukee Admirals
RP - New York Rangers
Tricia - Atlanta Thrashers
Nic - Washington Capitals Portland Pirates
Kin - Anaheim Mighty Ducks
Matt - Dallas Stars Houston Aeros
Wendy - Philadelphia Flyers
Tuning Spork - Bridgeport Sound Tigers
Brian J. - Milwaukee Admirals
Ted (yours truly) - San Jose Sharks Cleveland Barons

Also, welcome Tuning Spork who said if we go AHL he simply must go with the Bridgeport Sound Tigers.

*To see all the AHL teams, head over to their home page and the mini-logos are listed right under the main banner. Rollover the logos and the team name and city appear just above the logos. Now you can find great full-size logo's here, thanks to Eric of Off Wing Opinion for pointing this one out.

I guess I'll switch over to the Rochester Americans. Cool name, and they usually have a winning season!

All bow to Wade Flaherty and the reigning champion Milwaukee Admirals.

Posted by: Brian J. at October 12, 2004 09:32 PM

Well I suppose that means I'm going with the Hamilton Bulldogs ...

Posted by: Cindy at October 12, 2004 10:17 PM

After much thought, and the fact that I have actually gotten to see them play before I am going with the Utah Grizzlies.

Posted by: Jenn at October 13, 2004 01:47 AM

I'll put the River Rats logo up sometime tonight!

Posted by: Victor at October 13, 2004 08:12 AM

Wade Flaherty? You're kiddin', right?

Posted by: Derek at October 13, 2004 10:42 AM

Decisions, decisions. I have TWO favorite AHL teams. The hometeam Norfolk Admirals, whose games I attend often, and the Wilkes-Barre Scranton Penguins (or the Baby Pens, as they're called). We never miss a game when they are in town.

Hmmm...I'll go with the Baby Pens. Will work on getting the logo up tonight.

Okelydokely then. Aeros it is.

Wade "Jack A Butterfield Trophy 2004" Flaherty?

Hey, he's not on the current roster on the Admirals Web site. What gives, did he retire?

Posted by: Brian J. at October 13, 2004 02:32 PM

Flaherty was still PLAYING?

Crap, I figured the old man was coaching by now...

Posted by: Derek at October 13, 2004 04:09 PM

Binghamton Senators seems to be the logical choice for me...go Spezza and Volchenkov!

Posted by: Dr_Funk at October 13, 2004 06:00 PM

Yay! Sound Tigers logo co-o-o-min' up!

Posted by: Tuning Spork at October 13, 2004 08:13 PM

So Heather, are you declaring your allegiance to the Ice Cats?

(There's also a REALLY RUDE joke in there, but I'm not saying it because you can probably kick my ass.)

Posted by: Victor at October 13, 2004 09:46 PM

I'll go with the Milwaukee Admirals. For two reasons, as they are the defending Calder Cup winner (so says the official site) and my astonishment that the city of Milwaukee would need such a nautical name.

Posted by: frinklin at October 14, 2004 01:18 AM

Ya know, I thought Norfolk had maybe moved to Milwaukee, but I see Norfolk still has an AHL team, and they're still called the Admirals.

So, the AHL has two teams nicknamed the Admirals. That should actually be a pretty fun game to go to, and it's only five or six hours away!
