...is for this story to be true: John Ashcroft to resign as AG. Pleasepleasepleasepleaseplease!
Posted by Ted at November 4, 2004 04:08 PMhmm. surprising sentiment here. i think he's a good man who, like the president, has been relentlessly badgered by his political enemies, but nonetheless has done a good job. i expect that a new ag might restart the acrimony meter, but it seems that it's already pegged for ashcroft. he does deserve a break from it though.
Posted by: chris at November 4, 2004 02:14 PMMaybe so, but under his watch the DHS has run amok on feelgood media events designed to make people think more is being done in the WOT than actually is. Requiring fingerprinting of Cub Scouts who want to fly model rockets, outrageous regulation enacted without regard for lawful rules against both rocketry and radio-control hobbies. It's clearly been a case of "why aren't you out looking for *real* bad guys".
Posted by: Ted at November 4, 2004 02:56 PMah. i knew there had been some type of restrictions placed on amateur rocketry, but didn't know much about them. hadn't heard about that Cub Scout fingerprinting thing. we do model rockets (the Estes kind), buy them by the box from AC Supply, and we haven't had any similar issues. of course, that offers the opportunity of combining the Space Exploration and Fingerprinting Merit Badges! :^}
Posted by: chris at November 4, 2004 05:12 PMThey backed off their original plan pretty quickly when it became obvious how broad and vague it really was. Their new regulations aren't much better, which is why the two big rocketry groups are in court (and winning so far) against the BATFE.
Posted by: Ted at November 4, 2004 07:06 PMI've speculated elsewhere that the physical office of the Attorney-General is located directly over the Hellmouth, so that fresh young AGs rapidly mutate into malignant assholes.
Remember Janet Reno? Not saying she was ever fresh and young, mind you.
Posted by: Pixy Misa at November 5, 2004 07:25 AMPixy, LOL. My prognosticating isn't all that great, but I've heard Giuliani's name floated for AG.
