NEW YORK (AP) - Four CBS executives were fired Monday following the release of an independent investigation into a "60 Minutes Wednesday" story about President Bush's military service that relied on forged documents.Posted by Ted at January 10, 2005 11:55 AM | TrackBackThe network fired Mary Mapes, producer of the report; Josh Howard, executive producer of "60 Minutes Wednesday" and his top deputy Mary Murphy; and senior vice president Betsy West.
I'm surprised at the firings, truth be told. If the same interviews ran in the Enquirer, nobody would have batted an eye.
Posted by: dawn at January 10, 2005 06:45 PMTrue, but the Enquirer doesn't pretend to be a real news source. I've never seen the senior editor of a tabloid appearing on the front cover swearing that the "bat boy" is real.
It's not that they should be held to a higher standard, but CBS didn't even meet the minimal standards for ethical journalism. Hell, they didn't even try.
