Good morning, things around here are going all right.
My wife Liz had her sinus surgery yesterday and everything looks good (I'm calling it sinus surgery because they stuffed a camera and laser and bone shaver up her nose). It's too early to tell for sure, but now that the pressures on her optic nerves have been eased, we expect her vision problems to go away. She's also still a few days away from being able to go back on her regular medications - you know, the ones that keep her out of her wheelchair. During the last week or so we were treated to a fast-forward version of the physical deterioration that she went through over the course of about 10 years, before the current generation of drugs were developed and available. Personally, I'm a fan of big Pharma, and anyone who bitches about them ought to pick any three family members and imagine them dead and gone, because odds are they would be without those "evil profit-sucking global monsters".
Me? I'm exhausted and wrung-out and working my way through a nightmare list of things to get taken care of around the house. Happy as hell to do it too, because Liz is gonna be ok.
Thanks too for all the kind words and good thoughts and prayers, they're appreciated more than I could ever say.

I don't imagine that helped much; since I forgot to let you know, and my influence with the cosmic all is minimal. But I was. So there you go.
Posted by: buckethead at July 19, 2005 12:48 PMGlad to hear things are good with your wife, surgery is stressful. I still need to get my deviated septum fixed some day, unfortunately it would mean taking a month or more off from playing music.
Oh and I'd be happier with Big Pharma if they didn't charge me over $300 a month for the drugs my family will need until the imaginary day our asthma disappears.

Oorgo, believe me when I say I know *exactly* what it feels like to pay for prescriptions. I also understand that developing new drugs costs a fortune, and being a capitalist at heart, I'm not against these guys making a profit at it. They wouldn't do it if they weren't making money, but nobody else would either. I don't think they're constantly raking in mountains of cash, and they get screwed over on a regular basis by countries like Brazil, India and the entire continent of Africa. A fair bit of what you and I pay goes to subsidize the poor. I'm ok with that too, as long as I've got health care insurance.

As for the pharmaceutical companies, I pay $30 ort so per month for anti-histamines. Without them, my life is a complete misery for half the year and on random days for the other half. $30 ain't much to pay.

But mostly at the news that you nutty kids will get to see the Nats win many, many World Series.
