Tease (updated)

Imagine this:

Back in 1993, five superb musicians set up in front of a big-screen television. Their host produced a box full of weird movies on VHS and asked them to jam as inspired by the images on-screen. Later, the recorded music was matched to scenes from the movie and their first music video was created.

The video is included with the extras on a classic horror DVD that I'll be reviewing in the near future. Very haunting music, very cool result.

Update: They have a website! I haven't had time to explore everything there, so I don't even know if the video is online or not. It looks like the original loose affiliation of musicians and artists have evolved into a multimedia consulting group.

That's got to be more-than-urban-legendish, and into the downright Goresian (as in Al "I Invented The Internet" Gore). Theft, I think, would be a better term.

Music videos have been around for decades, only they were called "promo films" way back then. I remember watching Ray Orbison's "Pretty Woman" promo film when I was but a wee lad, and laughing at his growls. I'm sure you've seen the classic Bob Dylan video where he flashes important words from the lyrics on cards (I'm totally blanking on the name of the song), and "The Kids Are Alright" is filled with classic Who videos (I like "Success Story" particularly, although the movie doesn't show it all).

You might also google 'scopitone' or 'scopitones' for info on the original video jukebox--very popular in Europe through the Sixties, and dead by the mid-Seventies.

Anyway. Credit being taken for something you didn't do is one of my pet peeves (why, yes, I *have* had that happen to me, several times) and it really sets me off. Offa my soapbox now.

Pssst... I said "their" first music video, not *the* first music video.

"Their first music video" you said? "Their?"

Ah. So you did.

Victor folds his hands together, looks directly into the camera, and smiles. Never mind!

(Man, another good rant....wasted...)
